Governor Rochas Okorocha has earned plaudits for his gesture of goodwill towards Imo state gold medallists at the just concluded Rio Paralympic Games.
According to a report on National Helm, the Imo state governor donated N1m and a car each to the three Paralympic gold medalists from Imo state. They are; Roland Ezurike, Nwosu Ndidi and Orji Josephine Precious.

It was gathered that the governor also extended his kind gesture to the coaches. This comes even as the governor marked his 54th birthday.
On their part, the special athletes sang a Happy Birthday song for the governor and promised to continue to set the pace.

Okorocha while addressing them said: “The best thing that can happen in Nigeria will come from Imo state as you have made not only the state but the nation proud.”
Celeski.blogspot.co.ke recalls that Roland Ezuruike set three Paralympic Records to win gold in the Powerlifting Men’s -54 kg. While Ndidi Nwosu landed Nigeria’s fifth gold medal of the Rio 2016 Paralympics, lifting 140kg to equal the Paralympics Record (PR) in the women’s -73kg Powerlifting event.

Josephine Orji on the other end, won Nigeria’s eight and final gold in her +86kg Powerlifting event. She did so by breaking the World Record and setting a new one of 154kg.

The donation from Governor Okorocha comes after the House of Representatives donated
N18m to team Nigeria Paralympians.
Each member of the House resolved to pay a sum of N50,000 to Team Nigeria Paralympians, following their successful performance at the just concluded Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Nigeria finished 17th on the medal table at the Rio Paralympic games with eight gold, two silver and two bronze medals, to secure its besting outing ever since making her debut in Barcelona 1992 games.
